HUTT RIVER BOARD
The fprtnightly meeting of the Hutt River Board was held yesterday. Present:,, Mr ¥ J. Jones, chairman, and Messrs, M J Hodgins, J. Braeell, J. Mitchell, and W. T. Strand. . The executors of the Routley .EstaU advised that they were prepared to accept the offer of the board to purchase the land owned by the estate on the river side of the stop-bank, and also the jand on which the stop-bank stands, for £200. The land in question extends from just south of the Hutt Bridge till it joins the ■Jand already acquired by the board south of Alicetown. By the purchase the boar 4 will own the whole of the land witnm the stop-bank and the land on which it stands south of the Hutt Bridge on the western 61 An application for the remission of rates on land owned by an aged couple in poor circumstances was received front the Red Cross Society. The board decided that, while it was not prepared to remit the rates, it would not prces for payment. . ~' Remission of the 10 per cent penalty on overdue rates was requested by three ratepayers. One of the requests, from _a returned soldier in hospital, was granted; the other applications were refused. Air. J.
