HIDES AND LEATHER.

Weildel and Co., writing London, September 13. report:—The general position of the hide market has continued to improve especially in South America. It appears that a very large barter business has been done with Central Europe, and this has given strength to the market ac a whole, especially to the South American position. It would appear that quantities of hides, including all classes, are only available in moderate supply. England has not participated yet to any exte..% but there is certainly much more interest being displayed among the tanners here. New Zealand sold at 4%d to 414(1. The leather situation is steadily improving, and the firmer hide market is giving the tanners some assistance, although it is not possible yet to make any advance in price.
