MERCANTILE LEAGUE
A meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League was held last night, Mr. J. J. Furlong presiding. With thirty-one applications for practice wickets and only thirteen wickets available for allotment, considerable discussion took place over their distribution. As an outcome the secretary was authorised to confer with the clubs concerned with a view to making an equitable allotment, The Director of Parks and Reserves advised that seven practice wickets were available at Kelburn Park, four at New town Park, and two at Kilbirnie Park. In order that the city groundsmen be given a reasonable chance of preparing good practice wickets, it was decided that there be no practices this week. Practice will commence officially next Tuesday evening. Arrangements were completed for the official opening of the season at Athletic Park next Saturday. It ia intended to hold an appropriate function. Team passes up to twelve in number will be issuel weekly to those teams drawn to play on Athletic Park. For the benefit of those clubs with more than one team in the league's competition a transfer committee consisting of Messrs. G. Eeles and J. Roberts was set up to deal with applications. This committee is to meet or. Friday evenings at 5 p.m. Applications are to be addressed to the secretary of the league. The Insurance Officers' Guild Club was given permission to play a friendly match on Labour Day.
