IMPROVEMENT IN TONE
Although the turnover at its recent meeting did not come up to expectation, the Masterton Racing Club must have been gratified with the apparent improvement in tone that was in evidence on the two days. . Had the weather promise been more favourable on the Saturday morning the investments must have been much more satisfactory, as the attendance did not reach its strength till well on in the afternoon.
As at Otaki, the racing was always kept fairly close to schedule, and in this the club' met its obligations to patrons from a distance. Upwards of quarter of an hour, wasf certainly lost each day at the time of starting, the final event, but this was not 'a ■ serious breach, as even then the racing was concluded shortly after 5 o'clock. The racing throughout, and especially on the first day, reached a particularly high standard for a country meeting. .
