PETONE CRICKET CLUB

There was a good attendance of players, including a number of new members, at the Petone Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon, when the Petone Cricket Club opened the season.

The opening ceremony was performed by Mr. W. Nash, M.P., who was introduced by Mr. A. Gate. Mr. Nash gave an interesting little address on cricket, touching on various phases of the game.

Tho Mayor of Petone (Mr. A. Scholefield) took the bat, and was bowled by Mr. Niitfh, after which Mr. Nash bowled to Mr. Seholcficld. Mr. Scholefiekl briefly spoke, referring to the loss suffered by the borough by the death of Mr. David MeKenzie.

Afternoon tea was Served, the following Indies being among those assisting:—Mesdames Brico, Rodger, Croft, Naeh, Cate, Kvlo, Northovci', and Miss Hunter.
