COMPETITION AT NELSON

(Special to the "Evening Pust.") XELSOX, October 15. rire-fighters who give their services to a widespread area of the northern portion of the South Island held a field day on SaUiday in providing an entertainment new to Kelson in the form of a tire brigades' competition. Five brigades were represented, Picton, Blenheim, Motneka, Richmond, and Kelson (two teams). As the Xew Zealand championships are being held early next year, at Blenheim, Saturday's competition was an interesting preliminary, and in ninny instances a high standard was shown by the com. petitors. Trophies wore Avon as follows: — One man coupling: Fireman It. Oliver (Kelson' B), 1; Fireman IS. Bush (Blenheim), '2. . Two-men coupling: Fireman A. Eylcs and C. J. Goodman (Kelson A). Third event: Firemen S. Stewart and F. Sheary (Kelson B). Kvent Xo. 4: Firemen Sheaiy, Oliver, and L. Goodman (Kelson B). ■ Three men reel: Lieut. Bush and Fireman R. Bush (Blenheim). Four men event: Firemen. .Sheary. Stewart, Goodman, and Oliver (Kelson B). Four men reek Firemen Sheary, Stewart, L. Goodman, and Oliver (Kelson B). Five men reel: Firemen C. Goodman, A. Eyles, A. Chapman, J. Pahl. and M. Harvey (Kelson A). The Ford Company Shield, presented to the most efficient team, wont to Kelson B. The total points duriiis the day were: Kelson 182. Picton 01, Blenheim 47. Motueka and Richmond withdrew early in the competition.
