GARDEN PARTY

BAPTIST ASSEMBLY

In spite of the rather dull and windy weather on Saturday afternoon, there was an-attendance of nearly one thousand guests at the Baptist Assembly garden party, held at Mr. B. Sutherland's residence, "llomcwood," Karori. The beautiful gardens, fernery, and glasshouse surprised and delighted the visitors. The variety of birds of every colour and kind, somo valued at as much as £50, attracted an admiring throng to the aviaries, while the grotto, with its waterfalls, fountains, cascades, and beautiful lighting effects, was equally popular.

During the afternoon the Et. Hon. G. Forbes and Mrs. Forbes were welcomed on behalf of the Assembly by the president, the Eov. John Laird, M.A., and Dr. J. J. North, principal of the Baptist College. Later Mr. B. Sutherland entertained the party to afternoon tea. Tennis enthusiasts were particularly interested in the exhibition tennis match between Don France and N. Smith and R. Ferkins and E. Eoussell, all of whom played tennis of a high standard.

Musical tastes were catered for by the Salvation Army Citadel Band. The afternoon tea and general arrangements were in the hands of Mr. Dean and his committee, assisted by the senior members of the Girls' Life Brigade and members of the Young Women's Bible Classes.

The willingness of Mr. Sutherland to share the pleasures of his unique and attractive homo was greatly appreciated by every guest.
