NAVAL CONFERENCE
ON WASHINGTON TREATY
WISHES OF JAPAN
LONDON, September 30.
• It is believed that a naval conference iv connection, with tho Washington Treaty will bo convened for April next. Probably it will bo held in London, after the preliminaries aro fixed thero about tho middle of next month.
Japan is anxious for an April conference, and that the London Treaty oxpiring in 1936 should also be discussed at it.
It is expected that Admiral Yaniauioto, chief Japanese delegate, who ia to arrive in London on October 15, will give the required year's notice of denunciation of the Washington Treaty.
Japan's counter parity proposals are so far not discussed.
Mr. Norman Davis probably will represent the United States at the preliminary meeting. The Dominions will not participate, but will be advised through their High Commissioners.
The discussions really will develop into a miniature naval conference, the results of which will decide the fate of the 1935 conference, whoso prospects remain doubtful.
Government quarters do not confirm a morning newspaper's report that pending the conference, Britain will delay her 1033-80 naval programme, as !,a ilixiirmnmenl gesture.
