BYRD BACK AT BASE
QUICK EETTJEN PLIGHT
GOOD HEALTH AND SPIRITS
NEW YORK, October 13. A radio from Little America states that, taking advantage of a temporary break in the weather, an aeroplane on Friday flew to tho Boiling advance base and immediately returned -with Admiral Byrd. The flight was made in quick time, although the pilot, Bill Bowlin, spent half an hour hovering over tho White Barrier before ho was ablo to pick out tho hut. Admiral Byrd left Little America on March 25, aud spent a vigil of seven months, but for twelve days, in .weather observation. On his return to camp ho appeared to have recovered from the illness that made a rescue party necessary. His face has filled out, and most of his strength has returned. Dr. Poulter accompanied] Admiral Byrd on the return flight. As their leader stopped from tho aeroplane all members of tho expedition crowded round him. His Jong hair, uncufc since ho left, appeared greyor, bufc he was in excellent spirits. Ho greeted each man by name and thanked them for carrying on the expedition whilo ho was away. The flight took only a few hours, Bowlin departing at 10 a.m. and returning at 2.20 p.m. No. 2 tractor, carrying supplies, arrived at the Boiling advauco base at 2 o'clock on Thursday morning. The tractor party going to the Ford range was finally able to proceed after the j winds had almost buried the tractor j and sledges. When tho winds dropped | the equipment was dug- out. According to the latest word tho party is IS!) nautical miles from the camp, where it J is again delayed by mechanical difliculties with tho tractor. The message failed to mention if the.party would bo able to make quick repairs. There is slight worry here, as the party has been about fourteen days away.
