ITALIAN STUDY CIRCLE
A most enjoyable meeting of the Circolo Italiano was held on Thursday evening in the rooms of the Pioneer Club. After the usual lesson, conducted by Cay. Vott. Formichella, and the advanced conversation class, the patron made the announcement that the various Italian societies, of Wellington had agreed to combine to give a ball in honour of the commander and officers of the Italian cruiser, the Armando Diaz on the occasion of their approacuinir visit to New Zealand, the date to be arranged later. The announcement was received with great enthusiasm by those '"There followed a delightful musical pro-m-amme arranged by Siffnor A. P. fi-iida. Mr William Haydoek played a violin solo, ''Concerto" (De Boriot), accompanied by Mr William Haydoek, sen., and as an encore he gave "Midnight Bells" (Kreisler). Miss Kathleen Jansen (soprano) gave two charming songs, "Mattmata by Leoncavallo, and "A'Vucchella," by Tosti. Then came a teuer solo, ' E. Lueevan le stel'le" (from "Tosca"), sung by Mr. Charles Edwards, and two mezzo-soprano solos by Mies Molly Atkinson, "Ogni Sabato" (Gordigiani) and "O Mio Babbino caro" (Puccini). Mrs. Doris Gunn gave a delightful pianoforte solo, "L'aulette" (Glinka). Mrs. G. P. Aldridge was the accompanist for the evening. The programme ended with the singing of "Giovenezza," conducted by Signor A. V. Truda. Supper brought the evening to a close. Among those present were Mesdames Tioyd-Wilson. Maunder, lJendnll, Lash.
