INTER-ISLAND MATCH
RECORD OF RESULTS
Except for a break of four years during the war, the North-South Bugby football match -was played annually from 1902 to 1929. In 1930, when the British team was hero, no inter-island match took place, but since then the contest has been staged each season. Prior to 1902 thero had been one match, North having met South at Wellington in 1897, so that all told there have been 28 inter-island matches. The records weigh rather heavily in North's favour. North's representatives have won 16 of the .matches and South 'a total of wins is 'nine, the other three contests having been drawn. For the second time in the history of the competition, the inter-island match is being played in Dunedin, and, left so late in the present season, as well as coming after, a New Zealand tour to Australia and the many interprovincial engagements, today's encounter unfortunately is not bringing out sides to represent fully the strength of Eugby in the North and South Islands. It lias happened also in some past years that the teams have not been up to the standard that should be reached in a Test between North and South, und for the future every endeavour should be made to have this fixture set down for decision at a time and place to ensure that the event will lose none of its importance.
