Girls' Friendly Society.
A full'meeting of the Girls' Friendly Society Council was held yesterday afternoon and very high appreciation was expressed for tho successful work of the session, in Both senior and junior divisions. The two exhibitions showed much advance and keen interest was displayed by members. The judges spent all the morning over their work and were heartily thanked by the council. The judges for the handicraft exhibition included Mr. K-owell (senior cooking), Miss Seed (senior knitting, sewing, and novelties), Miss Hough ton. (junior cooking), Mrs. Boddy (junior knitting), Miss JNlelands (junior sewing and novelties), Miss Wclsby (junior writing and drawing); Prizes were donated by Mrs. Jowett, Mrs. Mag-ec, Miss Simpkin, Miss McNicklc. Bed Cross Students' Dance. ' ■ Preparations have been in hand foT some time for the Bed Cross students' dance, to be held next Tuesday evening at St. Francis Hall, Hill, Street. This dance, which has been one of .the fixed events of the season for . someyears, is always a most enjoyable one. and this year special preparations have been, made , for entertainment. . .An exhibition of ballroom dancing will be' givon by Miss Margaret O'Connor's juvenile pupils. Modern dances will be demonstrated by Mr-. Southern .Collodgc and Miss Mona'"Waterhouse, and three tap dancers will also give items. An excellent orchestra has- been engaged and the usual, delicious homemade supper will be served.. Harriers' Annual Dance. Excellent arrangements have beea made by tho . Scottish Harriers and A.A. Club for Iheir annual dance to be held at St. Francis Hall, Hill Street, next Wednesday evening. Ail entertaining programme will include novelty and Monto Carlo dances as well at popular ballroom measure's. E.S.U. Afternoon Party. A very entertaining afternoon meeting given by tho ladies' social corumitteo of tho English-speaking Union was enjoyed by a large attendance.of members yesterday. Mrs. X, Preston (chairwoman of tho social 'committee) and Mrs. J. Bonnie were hostesses. Mrs. Bennio presented Mrs. Preston.with a dainty bouquet in appreciation of her work, during the year. Songs were given by Miss B. van Staverori and Miss Mavis Chamberlain, accompaniments, being played by Miss van Staveren ami Miss Nora Gray. Recitations wern given by Mrs. Ashbura-Chisholin, au<l 11 charade, arranged by Mrs. Bennie, was acted by Mrs.' A. L. Hunt, the Misses van Staveren, and Mrs. Bennie.lntoresting addresses were given. by Mrs. Wall (Sydney), who spoke of the work of the union in Australia. Mrs. Preston-, Mrs, Bcnnie, and Miss Black also spoke interestingly of different aspect* of tho .English-speaking Union's work. University Women's Club. ' The clubrooms of the University "ttV men presented a bright and' cheerful appearance one evening recently when members met to enjoy a delightful programme of music and elocution. Mesdames Ross and Eraser and'Miss'Hind" acted as hostesses and provided ah entertaining evening for > those present. Elocutionary items were, given by Miss Hind, Mrs. Eacly, and' Mrs. Boss',;-arid Barrio's charming one-act play; "Seven Women," was read by Mosdames Eady and Boss, and. Messrs Boss and Pears. Miss Davies and Mr. E. H. B, Green contributed several songs to the programme A competition provided the general amusement, and was won. . by' Mrs. E. H. B. Green. . , ... .'.
