1 EXPENDITURE IN SOUTH
PLANS FOR THE YEAR
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHKISTCHUKCH, September 28. A statement of the plans of .the Main! Highways Board for the South Island this year was made hy .the .board's representative,. Mr, M. H. Wynyard, at a meeting of delegates 6f the. South. Island Motor .Union. The expenditure last year,, said' Mr* Wynyard, comprised '£674,0067 from tha revenue account and ,& 198,000 from the construction account.. -It was .prooosed to spend this- year .- £000,0,0.0-." anef £510,000 from the two funds _ respectively as soon as possible.. Including1 works in progress, over 140 "miles of reconstruction sealing .in .tho South Island which was -estimated, to cost £190,000 would, be. completed. ,thia year. Provision had been, uiade'for tho construction of 142 bridges t6 cost more than £130,000. All wore expected to be finished or started-by.tho cud of this ye.ar. Tho principal bridge works completed were a single-w,ay bridge oy'ei; the Waimakariri lit Bealoy, tho Balclutha traffic bridge, .and the Molyneux bridge, at. Clyde. In. addition; ordinary; maintenance work, bridging' and 'sealing, and other improvement's to South.
