An intense westerly depression still extends from the westward across New Zealand and strong north-west to west winds to gales have consequently continued to prevail. The weather has been mild generally and mainly fair in eastern parts, but cloudy to overcast In districts with n westerly aspect. Bain has fallen in tlio western and southern, areas of the South Island and scattered light falls have also occurred on the west coast of the North Island. Iv Foveaus Strait there have been hail showers in places and Nugget Point experienced ii thunderstorm during last night.
