PALMERSTON NORTH SALE
There was, a very keen demand *i'or all classes of produce at Abraham, and Williams, Ltd.'s wool, skin, hide, and tallow sale at Palmerston North. Values were better and competition was general and good. Competition for sheepskins was very keen from all sections of the trade, \vith values for fine'pkins on a par, and medium and coarse full-woolled skins VtA easier; pelts to half-wools were %d to- Vad easier. In the hides section both tanners and exporters were operating freely. Ox hides appreciated 3-8 dto VAd per lb, and cow hides Vsd to Id per lb. Lighter sorts were in keen demand; yearlings were on a par to %d better. Another large offering of calfskins was submitted, and values appreciated %d to %d per lb, and calfskinsare selling at from Is lOd to 3s 7d each. The tallow market improved from 10s to 20s per tou. The following is the range of values:— ' „ Wool.—Fine hoggets, 6d to 6%d per lb; dead, 4d to 4 J/4d; crutchirigs, first 3%d to '3%d, second 2%d to 3d; bellies and pieces, 2%d to 3d. Sheepskins.—Dry,- fine hogget, 6%d to 6%d; hogget, 4%d to 5%d; fine crossbred, 6d to CVid; three-quarter fullwools, 4%d to 5%d; quarter to . haltwools, 4V2d.t0.0d; shorts,.2d to.3d; pelts, 2d to 2%d; dead, 3d to 3%d; damaged, first 3%d to 3%d, second 3d to 3%d. Hides—Ox, heavy 5 7-8 dto 6%d, medium 5 7-8 dto 6 1-Sd, light to 3d; cow, heavy 4%d to sd, medium 4 3-8 dto sd, light 4%d to 4 7-Sd; yearlings, 5d to 6 5-8 d; cut, 4d to sd; calf (light), first 7 3-8 dto B%d. second 6 l-8d to 7d, cut Gd to 6%d. lal-low.-In tins, 8s 6d to 14s per cwt; m drums, first 14s 6d to 15s, second 12s to 13s Cd.
