WHOLESALE FRAUD
MAN'S INSURANCE COVER
MONEY FROM "ACCIDENTS"

AUCKLAND, This Day
A story of wholesale fraud in insurance companies in Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland was told in tho Police Court today, when Leonard Lock, aged 40, was charged that, with intent to defraud, he obtained a total of £187 I2s from insurance companies by falsely representing that ho was somebody else. Tho police said that the accused obtained accident cover from twclvo different companies, 'between January, 1031, and August last. In every instance excepf- the last he met with accidents within two months of taking out the policy, and made a claim. In tho poriod named ho allegedly suffered 24 accidents, and the claims totalled nearly £400. The accused ' admitted tho amounts ho had received, but said that the accidents were genuine.
Counsel for the accused said that tho accidents must,-have been genuine, because reputable medical men had certified.
Unfortunately the accused experienced tho accidents under tho wrong names, the Magistrate, remarked. He wondered if ''accidents" was not a euphemism. The accused was committed for sentence.
