MARLBOROUGH TOURNEY

WON BY D. WHYTE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

BLENHEIM, September 24,

Douglas Whyte (Wellington) defeated last year's runner-up, -James Jeffries (Marlborough), 3 and 2, in the final of the Marlborough provincial-golf championship, played in calm, dull weather, today. The match produced some good golf, a feature being Whyte's magnificent driving and controlled shots. Jeffries failed in putting, usually his strong department.

After being four down, at the eighth, Jeffries pulled up well and was one dow:n at the thirteenth, but Whyte's wider tournament experience stood him in good stead. He never faltered. The winner did 37—one under bogey for the first nine holes. This is the second year in succession that Jeffries has filled the role of runner-up to different Wellington players.
