WELLINGTON BURNS CLUB
The Wellington Burns Club reports that v full meeting of the committee was held, at which important decisions were arrived at. The programme steward for the projected concert on St. Andrew's Bay, November. 30, stated that all arrangements were completed. The chairman then reported what had transpired in the relations with the Scots Federation over the holding of another Scots function on December 1. An independent effort was made in consultation with Mr. Mackenzie for three or more from' both organisations to; talk matters over in order to dispel misunderstandings andsecure one combined Scottish gathering. Members expressed the view that it would be a mistake to have two Scots concerts for St.. Andrew's Day. It was emphasised that the club in the first instance had wished for a large combined Scottish concert on St. Andrew's Day, which was now jeopardised by conflicting views of two Scottish organisations. After full discussion, it was) unanimously resolved "That in view of what has taken place, and with a desire to avoid needless conflict which may reffebt on our Scots' dignity and honour,; the club determines to forgo its concert on St. Andrew's Day and to cancel the arrangements made." A motion' to. thank all. those who had kindly offered their service was heartily carried. •
