INVEECAEGILL, September 24.

A tragedy occurred at a level crossing near land's bridge, near Makarewa, on Saturday afternoon when the Invercargill-Thorbury train struck Michael Crowe, aged 85, of Makarewa. Mr. Crowe, who was on foot, was killed instantaneously. The accident occurred shortly before 2.30 p.m.
