CHAMPIONSHIP .KACES

DISLEY WINS SENIOR TITLE

Last year's runner-up, 0. Disley, of the Port Nicholson Club, wou the senior 50 miles Wellington provincial road cycling championship on Saturday afternoon by a clear-cut margin from F. Franklyn (Pahiatua), with J. Bdulton (Poneke) third and W. Lasky (Poneke) fourth. Disley has been one of Wellington's leading riders for several seasons past, and his success was no more than a just reward for his assiduousness and conscientious endeavour.

-V 16 miles junior championship was also held. This was won by R. Dutton, of Hie Hutt Valley Club, a promising young rider. The course for the senior race was Irom the Petone- rowing- sheds, thence along the main highway to a point half-way up the Rimutaka hill, and back to the startinc point. There were 20 competitors, and each started at two-minute intervals. A light southerly wind assisted the riders on the outward journey, but not all, toi it led to the downfall ot some of the more impetuous. They were inclined to make the pace too willing, with the result that for the return journey they were somewhat tired. . Several alterations took place m the field before the turn was reached. <j. Tinkler (Masterton) was unfortunate early in the race; he punctured at Lower Hutt Eade (Feilding) overtook Sparkes (Poneke)' at Upper Hutt, P. Percival caught Aldridge at Maori Bank, and Dialey and Bigga overtook Percival on the Mungaroa hill. Biggs was ahead of Disicy at the top of the hill, but Disley overtook him before the turn was _. reached1. The latter was first round, having taken OS minutes for half the distance.
