SPRING TYPE PREVAILS

Special forecast for WellingtonsStrong northerly winds, decreasing by tonight. Weather fine.

A shallow depression is at present crossing the Dominion, but although it may cause rather unsettled weather temporarily in places it is unlikely to spoil tho weekend weather. The general forecast issued at noon today is for northerly to westerly winds to tho north .of Otago. These will bo. mode,rato mainly, but will be strong at times in exposed situations, especially about and to the north of Cook Strait. A change to south-westerlies, however, will extend northward over the Dominion within tho next twenty-four hours. Although there may bo some seattored and for tho most part light rain in' districts with a westerly aspect and over the southern half of the South Island, the weather for the most part will be fair to fine with moderato tern-. peratures.

During the past twenty-four hours the weather over the Dominion as a wholo has been fine, only very few, and those very light,- showers being reported. A change to northerly winds gradually extended from south to north yesterday and last night, and had reached the central portions of the' North Island by this morning. About Cook Strait winds have become strong, a gust with a velocity of 46 miles'an hour being recorded at Kelburn this morning. In the far south, however, winds have again backed to tho southwest.

Auckland's weather was fins and clear yesterday with a light to moderato breeze from tho south. Similar conditions wcro prevailing again this morning. Tho weather cleared up in Wellington yesterday afternoon, and at 5 p.m. the wind changed to tho north-west. It remained light in force until 2 a.m. today, when it suddenly freshened, and by 10 a.m. it had reached tho force of half a gale. Tho weather, Imwever, has remained fine and much milder.

Ghri'stchurch is having lino and sunny weather with 'a north-easterly breeze. There was a slight frost there last night.
