THE TIGER'S SPRINT

BURNISH DISAPPOINTING

, ■-• ..-■' — - /;.*■■■ . The Tiger, who won on the Wongarim course at the last meeting in'•May, was sent put just favourite over Pin Money for the Flying Handicap, with which the day's racing concluded, and he duly scored a narrow victory over Good Hunting and Cadland, giving the favourites their only success during'the day.

The Tiger was beaten out by Pin Money, but he ran to the lead within the first half-furlong. Thereafter he- piloted- Superior and Pin Money (together), Good Hunting,' Burnish, and Cadland, and .in the straight he lasted long enough to withstand Good Hunting by a neck, with Caaland only a head further away, well clear of Pin. Money and Superior. ■ The winner's only start between his two "YVanganui wins was when he ran aecond at Jfew Plymouth recently. Ho enabled W. J. Broughton to be the only rider to record two riding successes during the day. Good Hunting ran Mb best race for some time and he may be coming back to form. When The Tiger scored last May he was also second. Cadland was well at the rear till on the home turn but he then put in a characteristic effort from the back round the field. Superior, aud Pin Money, both showed speed but lacked stamina.. The disappointment of the race was Burnish, who went execrably and finished last several lengths behind Superior and;. Pro Money. ' . The efforts of Burnish and Mother Superior in their races yesterday levels up the Gnineas field for tomorrow. Neither did near as well as she should for fillies who ■were the crack two-year-olds last season.
