OFFENDED BY BUST
Eather than sleep in a bedroom which contained a reproduction of the- farnons bust of Queen Marie Antoinette, with bared shoulders, -the Dey of Tunis, on a visit to the French Government, threatened to return home. To the amazed official who accompanied him to the hotel where the Dey was to spend his first night, he explained that the Koran forbado to men tho sight of woman with bnro shoulders and that ho must, therefore, insist. on the immediate removal of tho "shocking bust" on the mantelpiece. Tho bust was taken away in a hurry and replaced by one of President Thicrs, the nineteenth --century ■■■French- statesman who played an important, part; in the conquest of North Africa by Franco.
