CONTROL BOARD ELECTIONS
CHAIRMAN DEFEATED
The chairman of tho New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board, Mr. G. Stephens, has lost his seat to Mr. F. E. Nottage, the postal election which closed yesterday giving Mr. Nottage 165' votes as against 133 votes cast for Mr. Stephens, the sitting member for Nelson.
Mr. A. M. Robertson, the sitting member for Hawke'a Bay, retained his seat against Mr. J. Gordon, receiving 83 votes as against his opponent's 68. Voters are registered orchardists who export not less than 100 cases of fruit in tho season. The elected members of the board hold office for three years from September 1.
Tlie death has occurred at Nelson of Mr. John Alfred Stringer, an excity councillor and a member of the directorate of the Permanent Building Society. Ho was well known in sporting circles, and was vice-president of the Nelson Jockey Club.
