WANGANUI LOTTERY
THE PROMOTERS FINED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN", This Day. A fine of £25 was imposed on the principal promoter, Francis Henry Holz, of a lottery instituted at Wanganui. The lottery, the prize of which was a car, was intended to build up funds for the Wanganui Free Ambulance services. Altogether £800 has already been realised from the sale of tickets throughout the Dominion.
A second man associated with, the scheme, Rufus Eandolph Parker, was fined £3.
Charges against nine Wanganui women who had been selling tickets were withdrawn, the Magistrate remarking that they were unwitting transgressors. He said that Holz claimed ho was running the scheme for the public benefit but ho had a personal and substantial interest in it.
