COMPANY MEETING
JAS. J. NIVEN AND CO., LTD,
The annual meeting of shareholders of Jas. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., was held in the company's offlce ] Wellington, today. In the absence ofrthe chairman of directors (Mr. W. H. Nelson), the chair was taken by Mr. G. G. G. Watson, who moved the adoption, of the annual report and balance-sheet, particulars of which have already been published.
Thp chairman drew attention to the satisfactory trading returns disclosed in the balance-sheet, stressing the fact that the substantial losses of the two previous years had now been translated into a small profit. He also pointed out that the turnover had increased, and expressed the opinion that the outlook, not only for the company but in business generally, was at the present time more favourable than it had been since the commencement of the depression.
The retiring directors, Messrs. Lionel Kelson and A. C. Mitchell, were reelected, and the chairman informed the meeting that Mr. F. L. G. Jolly had been appointed by the board as a director to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. AY. F. L. Ward. The meeting concluded with the customary votes of thanks to the directors •md staff.
