CENTENARY AIR RACE
USE OF MILDENHALL
OFFICIAL SANCTION
(British Official Wireless.)
(Received September 5,11 a.m.)
RUGBY, September 4.
The use of the new Royal Air Force aerodrome at Mildenhall, near Newmarket, has been sanctioned by the Air Council as a base for the air race to Australia which will start on October 20. Of the original 64 entrants some have withdrawn, but it is expected that over 40 will participate, and the use of the aerodrome has been granted in response to the request of the Royal Aero Club, which is organising the race at this end, as no civil aerodrome in England possesses the necessary hangar accommodation. Mildenhall . has the additional advantage in being generally free from fog, while there is littte clanger of the aerodromo becoming boggy even in wet weather.
