NEW DEAL UN-AMERICAN
CASUALTY TO LIBERTY
PHILADELPHIA, September 3
Condemning the yjolicies of tho Roosevelt Administration, which ho infercntially labels as will-o'-the-wisps, Mr. Herbert Hoover, in the current issue of tho "Saturday Evening Post," declares that tho people of the United States are faced with 'the issue of human liberty.
The former President, in his first discussion of political questions since he left the White House, decries economic regimentation, and says: "The whole thesis behind this programme is the very theory that man is but a pawn of the State. It is a usurpation of the primary liberties of man by the Government.
"It is a vast shift from tho American concept of human rights, which even a Government may not infringe, to those social philosophies where men are wholly subjective to the State. It will be a vast casualty to liberty if it is continued."
Tho article makes no mention by name of President Roosevelt, but includes a critical digest of tho powers granted President Roosevelt, and assails the "un-American" attitude of Congress in granting these powers.
