RUGBY, September 4,
With a view to facilitating a settlement in the dispute .over the increased Australian cotton duties a number of Lancashire firms have offered to consider a contract to buy for a period of years either a fixed quantity of Aus-tralian-grown cotton or the surplus crop over local requirements, subject to the quality being satisfactory and the protests rngarding the duties on Lancashire products being met. The offer has been placed before the Australian Minister of Trade and Customs, but a full Cabinet meeting is at present out of the question owing to Ministers being engaged on the election campaign, which is now nearing its end.
