C.J.C. PROGRAMME
INCREASE IN STAKES
HACK RACE CONDITIONS
(Special to the "Evening Post.") CHRISTOHUECH, This Day. The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club has approved the programme for the November Meeting. The stakes for the four days total £10,125, an increase of £1125 over last year, including the £275 added to the New Zealand Cup, £100 to the Welcome Stakes, £200 to the Derby, and £100 to the Oaks announced earlier. Other increases now arranged amount to £450, spread over seventeen races. The Jockey Club Handicap, Pioneer Handicap, and Otaio Plate Handicap each benefit by £50, and the Riccarton, Epsom, and Avon Handicaps by £25 each. All the former hack races have been increased by £20.
Hack races under the, usual conditions have been replaced by races with special conditions which restrict them to horses that at the time of nomination have not won a race of the value of £200 or races of a collective value of £400 to the winner. A Brush Hurdle Race is included on the first and third day. The second and fourth open with a flat race for horses that have completed a course of three hurdle races or steeplechases, or who can comply with the club's special hack conditions. .
