Clark is. the-secretary.. - ' 'Through the courtesy of. the manager ot the Wellington Municipal Milk Department, the • Cub Packs of the St. Mary's and St. Francis-dc Sales Scout Groups were shown through the depot on Wednesday, August 29,- a member of the staff accompanying Vhe: Cubs and their officers and explaining everything. ;At: their evening meeting last week the Terrace Troop were pleased to welcome Mr. Spence, Scoutmaster, and Mr. Ross, Cubmaster, of the 2nd Kelburn Group, also a'smallparty of Scouts from the 2nd Kelburp Troop. The usual programme was Carried-out, which on this' occasion included a•, patrol signalling ; competition rather easily won by the-Kiwi Patrol. The •2nd Kelburn Scouts joined in the games, which were very, much enjoyed. - The Wadestown Group has taken a new lease of life and is settling down in earnest after, having suffered several changes. Twenty-one boys compose the Cub Pack, and are receiving instruction in jungleci'aft from ■"Akela," Miss Parlane, ably assisted by Miss John's and Rover John Pike. "Skipper" :is very, pleased with the' progress made;by the fifteen .Scouts,, and is receiving' Excellent "assistance from a New Plymouth Scouter "Rikki"' ;(Mr. Arthur Bryant). A social, arranged "by the recently-formed and very energetic group committee, was'held ■ last Wednesday. . The proceedings were opened by Major Jbplin, ;group chairman. Mr. W. G. Macei group secretary, gave an interesting lantern , lecture on the Southern Alps. A short . camp-fire sing-song was run ..b.y.Miss Johns, ..and three. Cubs were handed their stars.■ Four senior Scouts, together with '.'Skipper,"-"Rikki,^ and Rover Mate •H. Allison, attended a weekend camp at Butterfly Creek on August 25 and 26, and enjoyed a happy, though at times damp, camp. Heavy rain made it necessary to. retreat to the Rover Whare where, thanks U the courtesy of the Rovers, an enjoyable, night was spent. . '•Kamahi" reports.that the membership of the Packs is increasing steadily. A great deal of Soccer has been played; lately. Each pack has 4 good staff; of "Old. Wolves" to keep things on the move in true Cubby fashion. Members of "Te Puhi" Scout Troop spent a week at Barney's Whare recently, and in spite of rough weather at the beginning, had an enojyable break. The "Wharepouri' Troop is now running under "Kauri," ('"Mahoe" ' having been granted leave of absence for a time. Some changes have taken place in. the .patrols in the . "Wi Take" Troop. Russell Jones is now troop leader, Jim Davidson leads the "Wekas" (with Shirley Gimblett as second), and Arthur Hart is leading ■ the "Korohekes" (with Jim Hanson as second). The '"Tuataras" /are' in 'the .hands. of PatrolLeader Owen Hill ■ and Second Keith Amies. Laurie Pojntin'has been made second of the "Kurus." The troop flag is at last to hand; it is a very fine piece of work. The Hobbies Club continues to progress, the ;fleatherwork" section proving a very successful venture under the guidance of Jack Wass'("Tiaki"). Other sections are fretwork,-under P.L. Lewis, I model camps,'under T.L. Jones, P.L. Hart, and Second Amies, and drawing and lettering iindei* P.Ls. Hill and Weatherly. An interesting talk was given to the club by Mr. W. J. Phillipps ("Mana"). Following on his talk the leaders and seconds made an attempt two weeks ago to^find an old Maori track which'led over the hills from the Hutt Road 'to Porirua. The attempt was unsuccessful, but another, try will be made, more information having been obtained about it. A- large party from the troop spent an enjoyable dayin' the Wainui Valley last week. Scouters aro reminded of the masked hardup social in aid of the St. Mary of :the Angels' Scout Troop to be held in Tanning's Buildings, 74 Manners Streets on September" 12 at 7.45 p.m. Admission is lWzd. Arrangements for the Hutt Valley Old Wolves' Labour Day weekend palaver are well in hand. Wanganui Old Wolves are hoping to be present. "Inky" has written to say that at least one car-load will be coming down. A very cordial in\'itation is extended to Old Wolves in other districts.
