HUTT VALLEY SUBASSOCIATION
The annual report of the Hutt Valley Lawn 'Tennis Sub-association states that at the commencement of last season the strength of the sub-association was indicated by the fact that 58 teams, representing 24 clubs, entered for.the inter-club competitions, making a total of 1084 members playing on 73. courts. The number, of entries was a record for the sub-asso-ciation. Matches were played every three weeks on club courts, with a break of five weeks over the Christmas period.
The management committee met the Hutt Park Committee on two occasions, and although nothing definite had yet been arranged a proposition would be placed before delegates at the annual meeting- ~ With a view towards improving the standard of play in the valley, the committee commenced a series of ranking matches which proved very popular, and a gratifying feature .was the keenness and good spirit that prevailed among the contestants; also the number of junior players, who participated in these games. The number of matches played was 51, comprising 22 women's contests and 29 men's. The matter of a junior ranking list would have to be considered for the coming season. As representative teams would be chosen from the ranking lists, it was desirable that the players should challenge freely in order that the lists might be a true gauge of the merits of the players. The affiliation fees payable to the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association for the coming season had now been reduced from Is per member to 9d.
The prospects for . the coming season were good, and, with co-operation from every member, the progress of the subassoeiation must continue.
