SWEPT OFF LAUNCH
FISHERMAN DROWNED

CHRISTCHURCH, September 4.
A fisherman, Samuel Nicholson, formerly a seaman in New Zealand coastal vessels, was drowned at Chatham Islands about August 20. Nicholson had been fishing for the trawler South Sea and was lost overboard from a launch which was bringing mail from Waitangi to the trawler. He was swept off the stern of the launch by a heavy sea, and in the darkness the men on the launch could not find him, although his cries for help could be heard. Boats of the fishing fleet assembled in tho locality on the following day and a burial service was held.
