LODGE MEETINGS
ORDER OF DRUIDS.
Excelsior Lodge.—A.D. Bro. Stobart presided over a fair attendance. D.P. Bro. Taylor (No. 2 District) was in attendance in his official capacity and was received ivith the "Honours of the Order." A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Bro. A. Johnston. The bards reported on sick members, and sick pay amounting to £49 3s 4d and accounts were passed for payment. One new candidate was initiated and a brother joined by clearance. The secretary, Bro. Gauntlett, reported on the activities of the Dispensary Board and U.F.S. Council. On August 22 Excelsior Lodge held a successful •'ladies' night" in the Trades Hall, there being an attendance of well over four hundred. The dancing programme was in the capable hands of Bros. Lepper nnd Ellis as M.C.s, the catering being done by a willing band of workers under Bro. Edmonds, the lodge steward. MANCHESTER UNITY. Loyal Combination Lodge.—Sister J. Wilton, N.G., presided over a good attond- . ancc. Several visitors were present, including Bro. E. R. Miller, P.D.G.M., of the Wanganui district. At the conclusion of business .several members of Loyal Petone Lodge arrived nnd spent a pleasant hour at indoor games. Loyal Ncwtown Lodge.—Bro. S. Johns was the presiding officer. Several members were reported on tho sick list and payments were authorised. One candidate for . membership was nominated. A discussion on the juvenile question was initialed by Bro. Mclntyrc, and the matter was referred to the Past Grands' Lodge. A report on the recent social disclosed a small credit balance. 1.0.0. F., N.Z. Southern Cross Lodge.—Bro. G. Piaggi, N.G., presided over a good attendance. Sick visitors reported on brothers on the sick list and relative accounts were passed for payment. An invitation to a ball from Pride of Karori Lodge was accepted. Two now members were proposed and three brothers were granted permission to take their second degree at the next meet- j ing of District Lodge. _ There were four I competitors in the semi-final of the district ritual competition, Bro. J. G. McGregor being declared the winner, and will now represent the lodge in the final. Bros. P. Lee and E. Miller were the judges and were accorded a vote of thanks for their work. The first nomination of officers was taken. In reply to a vote of welcome Bro. F. Reilly conveyed greetings from Wildey and . William Ganc (N.S.W.) Lodges. Wildey'Lodge—Bro. P. O'Boyle, N.G., presided over a good'muster, including several visitors, the hitter including Brn. R. Mathers, Chief Patriarch of Port Nicholson Encampment, and his officers, Bro. G. F. Rudkin. Grand Warden, and members of Zenlandia. Cleveland. ■ and Southern Cross Lodges on official visits. One member was declared on the sick fund, and relative sick pay, with general accounts, were passed for payment. Two candidates were proposed for membership. The first nomination of officers for the ensuing term was carreid out. After routine business had been completed, a ritual contest was hold to decide who should represent the lodge in the district contest, Bro. A. J. Holding being selected. The lodge was later closed to allow play for the eribbage shield to be held between Cleveland and Wildey Lodges, resulting in a win for Wihley Lodge by 9 games to G. Bro. Steele, of Zealandm Lodge, was the judge. Harmony terminated n very enjoyable evening.
