STATE AND BUSINESS
"UNFAIR COMPETITION"
BUSINESS MEN COMPLAIN
The following remits were adopted by the council of tho Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night:—
"That tho Associated Chambers of. Commerce again make representations to the Government drawing attention to the necessity for any State or local body enterprises that arc in competition with private enterprise being conducted and administered so as to maintain a proper balance between public enterprise, private enterprise, and the consuming community. It is felt that this can best bo brought about by State and local body enterprises bearing charges, such as rates, taxes, rent, etc., on the same bases us are borne by private enterprise, aud that a net working profit should be budgeted for. It is further felt that the extension or continuance of;tho present unfair competition of State and local body activities will result in the elimination of private enterprise to the detriment of the community as a whole." "The new dairy regulations introduced on August 1 by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board are an unwarrantable interference with free trading, inimical to the best interests of the farming community, and another instance of the ineptitude of this board to deal with complicated marketing eondiditions." "That this chamber deprecates the interference by Government Order in Council with the management of the superphosphates business, which is one of tho important unprotected industries in this country."
