SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

Pressure is still high over the greater portion of New Zealand, but has been falling steadily in the far north owing to the advance of a deep cyclonic depression across the North Tasman Sea. Consequently strong, east to-north-east winds to gales have prevailed in the Auckland Province accompanied .by widespread and, in places, heavy rain. Over the remainder, of the Dominion, however, the weather has continued fair to fine with light to moderate winds from some easterly quarter prevailing.
