CALL OF THE RING
FAMOUS TOREADOR BREAKS
HIS OATH
One of the most accomplished and daring Spanfth matadors, Juan Belmonte, recently reappeared in the arena at Nimos at the age of -12, after seven years' absence (says tho Paris correspondent of the London. "Morning Post"). His admirers flocked xrom far and near to see the great artist of the bull ring.
The Spanish Ambassador to Great Britain, Senor liamon Pore:; do Ayala, the Spanish painter, Senor Zuloaga, himself an amateur "torero," and enthusiasts of the corrida from all over Spain were there.
Bolmonto, in spite of his long absence front tho ring, had not lost his nerve or adroit grace. Twice he was tossed by the bull of famous pedigree, picked up specially for the occasion, but he was immediately on his feet again, facing his opponent and within a few inches of his horns.
Behnoute surpassed himself with His famous trick of passing the "eapa" over the bull's horns and the banderillas and with other ring strategies of rare merit, before finally killing the bull. He was given, a great ovation by tho crowd. After the fight he admitted that when ho was tossed by the bull ho thought it was his last hour.
Jnaii Bolmoute yielded to his wife's pleadings seven years ago after.he had been nearly gored.to death intho ring, and sworo before her and priests that he would give up liis dangerous profession, adding, "What you ask of me is moro cruel than the horns of a bull." He has broken liis oath, not because he rieefls the money—-lie is comfortably off: —but bceau.sc "bull lighting is in my .blaod."
