(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
DTJNEDIN, This Day.
The Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland met today. The Bgv. A. Gardiner (South Invereargill) -was elected Moderator.
The Rev. P. B. Eraser wrote stating ;that if the Synod refused a candid .inquiry as to the teaching at Knox College relative to the written standards of the-' Synod and the Church, there ■would bo an appeal to tho Civil Court for a mandamus to institute such an inquiry.
In his letter Mr. Fraser drew attention to teaching in Professor Dickie's book which, he claimed, substituted a. confused artificial theology not based on the Scriptures. Ho referred also to the teaching of Professor Hunter as indicated by the prescribed text book, which exhibited the principles and methods of Modernist sceptical scholars •in an excessive degree.
Professor J. dimming said that it would bo improper to take notice of 1 his letter. If anyone wanted to bring up such matters against a professor he should do it in the way that the Book of Order prescribed.
The Rev. .T. D. Smith said that Mr. Eraser should stop coming to tho courts of the Church, in. an irregular manner :md making charges of this diameter against the honour of their teachers. The Synod declined unanimously to receive the letter.
