ENGLISH CHEESE MARKET
In commenting on the market for New Zealand cheese in London, Samuel* Page and Son, Ltd., London, inform Dalgety and Co. that "wo attribute the dullness in the trade for Canadian, New Zealand, and Australian to English, the production of which we are inclined to believe is on the heavy side. The English farmers are certainly complaining of the 'unheard' low prices they are getting, as low as 44s 4d per cwt being given as the price of best Cheshire and down to 32s for third grade, while there are certainly very large parcels of factory cheese for which 38s per cwt would be taken. There is no pretence of quality in such cheese, but given a public that is not particular, either through lack of knowing what a good cheese is, or, more possibly because their purchases are governed by their pockets, there is an outlet, which of course can only be at the expense of the 'Empire' product."
