• (Written by "Hunca Munca," 15, Tainape, for AnimaJf Page.) THE Noah's Ark on the nursery mantolpioco was in a. state of worry and confusion. It was the1 night before tho party which was to bo given in honour of Turtle's two-hundredth birthday—and the Youngest Baby Bear had tho toothache!' Mrs. Noah, was bustling around with hot water bottles and an enormous bottle labelled "Painkiller.'^ All tho animals sat in a' ring and offered advice, and Baby Bear sat in a corner, hold his. sore face, and looked extremely miserable; but in vain. The tooth kept on aching. Poor Mrs. Noah, was in despair. Here was Bhe, on the eve of the Great Party, called wmtfy from her jelliM and cakes, to attend a Baby Bear with an obstinate toothache. It was very annoying, but something had to be done. '... . . ■ ■ I. "Wo must ask "Wise Owl," said Mrs. .Noah. . ■• . ■ . ". . They founa Wise Owl in the furthest corner of the Ark, reading tho DictionI my, and Baby Bear dolefully displaydd his swollen face. Wise Owl put down his Dictionary, polished his spcctaclos, itoughcd ■importantly,, .and pokdd the swelling on Baby,' Bear's face. "Wow!" squealed Baby Bear. "That 1 »" hurts." . ..'■.■ Mr. Noah, who had been asleep in tho other corner, woke- up suddenly in tho middle of a snore, and blinked hard at Baby. Bear. ".Pull it out," said Mr. Noah, and went to sleep again. Wise Owl regarded tho tooth solemnly, head on one side. _ . _ "You must have a poultice," lio announced suddenly, and imnierseU himself once more in his Dictionary.; , ■■ " ■ \ So Baby Bear liad a poultico, and tried to imagine- that tho_ too til had stopped aching, until a specially hard acho caused him to icalise that it hadn't . ■'. v • ■ ■ ■ " ■ ■ "Wow!" said Baby Bear. "Wowl" and cuddled Ms hot water bottle. Perhaps the idea of missing tho party made it worse', but, anyway, the fact remained that tho toothache was not cured. . , . ' "Pull it«lt!" repeated Mr. Noah. , i So they Mated Baby Bear' in a chair and tied tho tooth hy a piece of Mrs. Noah's strongest thread to tho door handle. Mr. Noah walked grimly to tho door and jerked it hard. Baby Bear opened his mouth wide to yoll and nothing happened. Mr. Noah jerked again, harder, but this time Baby Boar said nothing. And* thero was the tooth 011 tho end of the thread. It was out! ' ■ . i. ■.' . Youngest Baby Bear poked the end of a tentative tongue into tho cavity. "It's out!" ho shouted gleefully, skippis^g round tho Ark. "It's out! Hippo! Jumbo! See tho tooth—and tho hole. Now I can go to tho And nest1 morning tho children who owned thef nursery where Mr. and Mrs. Noah and all the animals lived wondered why all the inhabitants of the Ark except the Youngest Baby-Bear looked so tired and glum. .
