A HOLIDAY MONDAY

HOCKEY TOURNAMENT

NELSON, August 0.

Kelson is the only district in New Zealand which recognises the first Monday in August as a holiday, following the English Bank Holiday on that date. ' The holiday was favoured by fine weather conditions for the various sports fixtures, which included a representative Rugby match and hockey tournaments. Many people went to the country and shooting and tramping expeditions were popular.

Prior to tho .commencement oi: the representative Rugby match today the Moller Memorial Cup, which has been allotted to the senior championship, was presented to the Nelson Union by Mrs. Moller. The Mayor (Mr. W. J. Moffatt), who spoke on behalf of Mrs. Moller, paid v tribute., to the late-Mr.;.-Holler, who had been a . highly- esteemed citizen and a ; prominent figure in various .sports in ■•Neisoii;' Mr. K. J. Second round; Atua A beat Moutere B, 1-0; Wa&htu Eeat.Tarakohe A, 1-0; Kiwaka jA.v-.b'eat-i-Eetya B, 3-0; Moutere A beat iriwaka C,: 3-0; Kia Ora A beat Kiwaka '-B, :i-0';-'Huia -A beat Ngatimoti, by default; Huia B beat Tarakohe B, by default; Kewa A beat Motueka B, 2-0. In a. match between the Nelson and Motueka Ladies' Golf Clubs Motueka won the Acheson Cup by 5 games to 1. Results were (Motueka names-first): Mrs. Smith beat Mrs. Green; Mrs. Thorp lost to Mrs. Toplise; Miss .Whitehorn beat Miss Mackay; Miss Everett beat Mrs. Moore; Mrs. Stilwell beat Mrs.-Davidson; Mrs. Kelling'beat Mrs. Miluer. The results of other games were: Mrs. Minchin lost to Mrs. Miller; Miss . Douglas lost to Mrs. Ohallies; Mrs. Mackay .and Mrs. Acheson all square;-' Miss Morrison lost to Mr?.' Harlfey; Mrs. Atkins beat Mrs..Sinclair; Mrs. Webley beat Mrs.. Boyes; Mrs. Moverley lost to Mrs. Mitchell; Mrs.' Deem beat Mrs. Stedman; Mrs. Cameron beat Mrs. Baigent; Miss Ross beat Mrs. Dodds.
