G-irl Guide News.
Those interested in Guiding'will welcome thq news that the companies of the Wellington South district are uniting to give a concert on a large scale. "Girl Guide Gaieties" will be presented in the Concert Chamber at S p.m. on August 4, and will bo all that its name implies. A pageant of the Girl Guides, in which twelve companies will take part, will contain some humorous scenes, but at tho same time will demonstrate how Guides may be of service, to all. Colourful physical culture displays, eurythmics, and attractive musical items will contribute to a wellbalanced programme, which will coneluelG with upwards of threo hundred Guides singing appropriate songs. The Repertory Theatre. Thoro was a very largo gathering of members of tho Wellington Repertory Theatre at the fortnightly reading, held at tho club rooms on Tuesday evening. A delightful play was road by a number of the members, and supper terminated a very pleasant gathering. Tuai ■Women's Institute. A meeting of the Tuai Women's Institute was held in tho Tuai Hall recently. Mrs. Muuro presided over an attendanco of about sixteen members. Tho -sowing competition for tho best borefc resulted' in Mrs. D. <T. Miller and Miss Burgis joint first, and Mrs. Gordon second. The cooking competition for tho best shortbread was won by Mrs. Tizzard, with Mrs. Blair second. A dainty afternoon tea was served, tho hostesses being Mesdames Gordon, Jones, and. Lylian. The roll call "What I Would do if a Burglar Appeared" brought forth mauy amusing suggestions. Another meeting was hold to say "good-byo" to M^ dames Chatterton and D. J. Miller, who were leaving tho district. A very enjoyable afternoon was spont, and the departing members were each presented with an institute spoon. Invitations Issued. The "English-speaking Union has issued invitations for a luncheon party which is being tendered to Messrs. Boberfc K. Burns and Lylo M. Spcnecv, jun., the visiting team of debaters from Washington, U.S.A. The Wellington Basketball Assjv*";' tion'has issued invitations,--*^- a danco which will take plo^'. at an early date in aid of tho representative team's travelling expenses. St. Thomas' Guido Committee has issued invitations < for a dance to be hold next week-at St. Thomas' Hall. Invitations have been issued for a dance to bo held in the Vontnor Street Schoolroom, Seatoun, on Saturday next. The dance is to tako tho form of an "Arctic Niffht." the decorations beiiur arranged by Mr. Matthews. Thero will bo several dancin<? exhibitions, and a novelty sunner. Tho proceeds of the | dance will be in aid of tho Douglas i flrodit Club. The Thespians. Ivor Novello's latest eomody, "Fresh Fields," was chosen by the Thespians | Little Theatro Society for their last meoting recently. It proved a most popular choice, and was greeted by much laughter and applause. There was a largo attendance.
