TODAY'S PROCEEDINGS

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

The Legislative Council met at. 2.30

p.m. In moving the second reading of the .Stock Bemodios Bill, the Leader of the Council (tho Hon. B. Masters) said that the measure had been asked for by various farmers' organisations in order that some protection might bo given to the purchasers of stock medicines. An amendment had boon wade in the Bill deloting the provision requiring the particulars of medicines to bo stated on the labels. It was felt, that such a provision would give secret formulas away to competitors. The Hon. D. Buddo said that tho reputable manufacturer of stock remedies would benefit by the Bill.

Tho Hon. W. H. "Mclntyro said that tho Bill was urgently required, and it was surprising that it Itad not boon enacted sooner. The farmer had boon mercilessly exploited, and tho measure was. designed to protect" the farmor froni himself.

Tho Hon. C. J. Carrington: Let the buyer beware. ,

/ Mr. Mclntyre said that the analysis of a stock remedy should not be published unless thero was a. serious reason for doing so.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Tho House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. today.

The Eotorua Borough Council Empowering Bill and tho Wellington City Empowering Bill were introduced, read a first,time, and referred to the Local Bills Committee. ■

Tho Education Amendment Bill was reported from the Lands Committee without amendment.

The llouso proceeded to discuss Ministerial answers to questions.

Mr. H. G. Dickie (Government,! Pafea) referred ttf- the constitution of j tho Meat Board, and said there was not much of the flavour of tho cowyaTd about the names of any of the members. Tour of tho members came frOm the South Island, whence, only two carcasses of beef were exported last- season. (Proceeding.)
