,M^the- annual meeting of members of the Wharigarei Racing Club this week, the president • (Mr. R. a. r Hosking) stated that he did not see how country clubs could now do without win-and-place betting,, but it is doubtful if many other country club presidents will hold with him, judging on the general trend' of opinion made_ manifest in such quarters. Mr. Hosking, in: his review of the season, said he was pleased to note the upward tendency in the totalisator,figures. His club had had a satisfactory season and was improving its position.
