FAILURE OF NAZI PUTSCH

ARMY TROOPS LOYAL TO GOVERNMENT

CLEANING-UP PROCESS WELL FORWARD

ATTITUDE OF ITALY UNCHANGED

(British Official Wireless.) .'■ (Received July 27, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, July 26. Vienna messages this morning state that all is quiet there, but some unrest is reported from Slyria, where the Nazis have occupied the hill; country about Judenburg and some parts of the industrial districts of Donnuitz and Leoben. It is officially stated that the army troops are loyal to the Government and a cleaningup process is being steadily prosecuted and should be completed today. ■•

A statement, reported to ' have been .made at the Italian Office .today, says that events in Austria, while filling the whole Italian nation with sadness, provide no cause for alarm, as the Government seems to be in full control. There was no general rising in Austria as the Nazis had promised. Their support did not materialise and they are left in ' a deplorable position as regards the Austrian population. Italy's economic and political policy towards Austria will proceed as before, as the unfortunate death of the Chancellor, Dr. Dollfuss, does not cause that policy to cease, but only to pass to his successor. ,
