The Minister of Lands (the Hon, 11. A, Ransom) esplainod to the Houso that, having regard to the piesent unsettled conditions affecting a number of tho properties coveied by tho Act, it was considered expedient to extend tho date to Deeomber 31, 1936, to enable ex tensions of leases due to e\pire before itlien tp be granted where such a comse iwas equitable. Another alteration in the law was designed to provide roach linery to enable eeitifieate? of extension to b.o registered at the offieo of the district land registrar against the relative instruments of title. "The provisions do not deprive the lebsoe of any lights at law if ho desires to proceed with his application," the Minister added. "They aro really for bib protection. The extension of leases has b,cen running on for a peiiod of years, and it is not in the interests of either lessoe or lessor that a new arrangement should be fixed up until we hsivo more stable conditions."
