(Eeceived July 25, 11 a.m.) KTJGBY, July 24. following on the announcement by Sir John Simon yesterday in the.House of Commons, which received with general satisfaction the intimation that the' Italian Government would . enact the necessary measures to prevent the export of war material destined for Paraguay and Bolivia from Italian territory, the United Kingdom Government, who have suspended all licences since May 9, have s.ent a telegram to thp Socretary-Genoral of the League of Nations, saying that they are now prqpared to enforce a complete suspension of* all exports of arms and war materials, including consignments under licences before May 9, but, before taking this action thoy suggest that a telegram bq dispatched to all interested Government? inquiring if they will now put the embargo into: force without reservations, if possible before the end of this month.: "The. Times," in a leading article, says that the action of Italy should bo decisive and the decision of Great Britain in May to prevent thq export of arms to this conflict, which only-sub-sists with, weapons from abroad, seemslikely to produce effective results. Certain countries, including Great Britain, ■ United States, Holland, Donmark, and Switzerland, had taken action without waiting a complete general agreement, and it was now to be hoped that the remainder, who had agreed in principlo to impose an «m----]>argo, would now come in.
