BUT STILL COLD

Fin'o weather, / but with cold temperatures and jnaiiy hard frosts tonight, is promised by the forecast issued at noon today. There will, however, still be , sonio passing showers ■in western and far southern, districts. Winds will be nioderato to strong, but gradually decreasing, westerlies to south-westerlies. An auticyclono is advancing gradually towards tho Dominion, although ' pressure is still rather low to the cast.of the South Island. Yesterday's weather was mainly fine about/Cook Strait, and on the East Coast of tho . North Island, whore westerlies were blowing. But moderate to strong south-westerlies predominated elsewhere and the weather was cold and .changeable generally, with showers at times in most districts. Snow fell on; some of the: jSouth' Island ranges and there was hail in a few places. By this morning, however, conditions -had improved except in the North Auckland area, about Cape Egmont and in far southorn districts, showers being reported thero at 0 a.m. today. Auckland had cold, but fair weather, yesterday with a fresh south-westerly wind. I3ince last night tho weather thero has been Bliowery. Wellington enjoyed a fine day with continuous (sunshine. The wind, a keen north-webtcrly, freshened somewhat in the afternoon, but a southerly took its place in the evening and some light rain, only one point, fell. Tho night was cold, three degrees of frost being recorded, and the weather this morning ;was fine and sunny with a:-light southerly. Christchurch had fine weather yesterday morning, but a fresh south-wester-ly blew up just before noon and some heavy. 6howers fell during the afternoon. The weather cleared again in the evening and the night was frosty; The weather this morning was clear with : a light south-westerly wind. Dunedin had cold and unsettled weather with a fresh south-westerly wind. Showers fell during the morning and the surrounding hills received a moderate coating of snow last night.
