SOME BIG DIVIDENDS
STEEPLES TO ST. VVARRIGAL
(Special from "Early Bird.") . . AUCKLAND, July 23. Backers were not always yon the spot at the Franklin Meeting today, and once again the results on this course contained several surprises. . Booklaw was always in the picture in the Bombay Hurdles, and, hanging on better than anticipated, he won easing up at the finish, enabling Killing King, Mia Stella and. Carlaris to finish within halflengths of him. .Booklaw had shown pace in some of his hurdles engagements, but the dividend of over a score was about his right price. Cruaclian 'fell and had to be destroyed. Prince of Orange was not started on account of the soft' track He is : all right, but he may not run in the Grand Hurdles.' •Supreme Court tried to.win all the way in the Pukekawa llaiden Handicap, and was collared at the distancel by both Miss, Lv and Gipsy Moth, the three benW separated by heads, with. Mia Stella's rider was very impetuous, and the horse seemed to be asked for his final run half a mile too soon. Snow Prince hit a fence hard five furlonga from home and received injuries necessitating his destruction. Imperial Prince fell at the second fence and brought down Luminary. D.
