In .connection with tho Nelson district's protest against-the proposed new tobacco duties a party of 50^—one of the largest and most representative deputations to leave this district—will go to. Wellington by tomorrow night's boat to,place the-case 'of the' 700 •Nelson tobacco growers before the Government on Wednesday morning. In addition to growers, all local bodies and many commercial interests will be represented. . ■ . : ... :
The city schools reopened this morning after being closed for a,week on account of the influenza epidemic. Tho attendances1 were greatly improved, but there was still a total of about 200 absent. Auckland Point had 45 absentees, Hampdoh Street 52, and Central about 100.
